Wolves are hoping to add Liverpool midfielder Jay Spearing to their ranks on a season-long loan deal.
Manager Mick McCarthy wants the 22-year-old enforcer to complete the final piece of the jigsaw after a summer of rebuilding.
Roger Johnson, Jamie O'Hara and Dorus De Vries have already arrived at Molineux and McCarthy has identified Spearing as another target.
Anfield sources suggest the central midfielder will be allowed to move on loan in order to gain more top-flight first-team experience.
Manager Kenny Dalglish is a big fan of the Wallasey-born star and rewarded him with a new contract towards the back end of last season.
However, with the big-money arrivals of Jordan Henderson and Charlie Adam, Spearing faces a tough test trying to break into the starting line-up.
Last season he was given his chance to impress under former manager Roy Hodgson in the Europa League and the cup competitions.
Then towards the back end of the campaign, Dalglish unleashed him on to the Premier League stage where he made nine appearances.
His progress will be boosted by a loan spell and the chance of first-team football is far greater in the Black Country than at his current employers.
Wolves have already strengthened their midfield by bringing in O'Hara and although no more big-money moves are expected, loan deals are still available to McCarthy.
Wolves resume their hectic pre-season schedule by travelling to League One side Notts County on Saturday.
Then, it's off to Glasgow next Wednesday to face SPL giants Celtic.
