Sevilla are holding out for around £8m from Liverpool for Luis Alberto.
The midfielder, who can also play as a forward, is on Brendan Rodgers' wanted list.
Rodgers is eager to get his summer business done early and hopes to sign Alberto by next week - although Liverpool and Sevilla are still apart in their valuations.
Alberto, who spent last season on loan at Barcelona B, is expected to leave Sevilla this summer.
The 20-year-old could yet move to Barcelona permanently, although they only have until June 15 to exercise their 'first option' clause.
It is understood that the Nou Camp club are cool on the idea of signing the Spain Under-21 international, with Liverpool in pole position.
The Reds rate him at around £5m but Sevilla want £8m, meaning there will be more negotiations between the two clubs.
