Liverpool sent scouts to check on Rennes goalkeeper Nicolas Douchez in the club's 2-0 defeat to Brest in Ligue 1 yesterday.
Douchez's contract runs out this summer and the 30-year-old could join any interested party on a free transfer.
The Reds are already snapping up Douchez's team-mate Sylvain Marveaux when his deal runs out and according to L'Equipe, Douchez could well be next on the Anfield side's list.
Douchez moved to Rennes in 2008 from Toulouse and quickly established himself as the first choice keeper at Stade de la Route de Lorient. As Rennes have moved up the Ligue 1 standings, even mounting a title challenge this season, the 30-year-old has begun to attract more attention.
On a free transfer Douchez is an attractive proposition and Aston Villa boss Gerard Houllier made an attempt to snap up the keeper just last month. The Frenchman however was told his countryman was not looking for a move to Villa Park.
Liverpool will face opposition for Douchez, with Paris Saint-Germain and several La Liga sides running the rule over the former Toulouse player.
