Liverpool look set to win the race for Arsenal left-back Gael Clichy if he fails to agree a new deal with the Gunners.
Kenny Dalglish is looking for a new left back, after being forced to play Glen Johnson out of position for the majority of last season, due to the injury worries over Fabio Aurelio and the failure of Paul Konchesky to settle in after his move from Fulham.
If Clichy fails to agree a new deal at Arsenal, and that is looking likely after Kieran Gibbs took his shirt towards the end of last season, then he could be sold with Roma ready to offer £7m plus players for his services.
Liverpool's £5m offer for the 25-year-old falls short of that figure but the Reds may have the edge in any deal as the France ace is thought to prefer a move to Anfield club rather than go to Italy.
