Newcastle United look ready to part with some of the whopping £35 million received for Andy Carroll by making a summer bid for Liverpool's Joe Cole.
Toon Army boss Alan Pardew is looking to rebuild his squad at the end of the season and sees the former Chelsea wide-man as the perfect acquisition.
Cole has struggled this season at Anfield, finding himself pushed to the sidelines under the stewardships of both Roy Hodgson and Kenny Dalglish. The England international had been linked with a move to boyhood club West Ham in the January transfer window, but it is thought that his persistent knee problems played a part in any move breaking down.
The 29-year-old signed for Liverpool in the summer on a free transfer, after Chelsea decided not to renew his contract, and now it seems as though a £5million deal could be brokered between his new club and Newcastle, especially considering the high wage that Cole receives.
Any deal would hinge on the thoughts of Liverpool assistant boss Steve Clarke, who is a keen supporter of Cole, having worked closely with him at Chelsea.
