Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish is looking to strengthen the defence at Anfield for next season, and they are planning a bid to snatch the Spanish left-back Jose Enrique from Newcastle.
Liverpool has been keeping a very close eye on the Spanish maestro as they look to find a solution to Kenny's defensive problem, and the Reds transfer supremo Damien Comolli made a personal visit to watch him this weekend.
Enrique is a superb player and was excellent against Blackburn, confirming to Comolli that he is currently one of the best left-backs available in the Premier League. It looks like the Reds might be back knocking on the door at St James' Park with their wallet open again this summer.
Liverpool smashed the signing record by bringing Andy Carroll to Anfield in an exciting last-minute deal in January and the Toon army won't be keen on letting go of Enrique without a fight.
However, Liverpool need to find a solution to their defensive problems, having conceded more goals than any of their close rivals, and currently sporting the seventh worst defensive record away from home in the Premier league.
Enrique has made over 100 appearances at Newcastle, and the 25-year-old is very popular with the Toon Army, but it seems that Liverpool are willing to splash the cash in the summer for a much-needed addition.
