Liverpool and Newcastle are monitoring developments with West Ham's Mo Diame who looks set to leave the club this summer.
The 26-year-old midfielder revealed last month that he wanted to leave Upton Park for a top-six club and that Liverpool were interested in him.
He said at the time: "Liverpool? I can't tell you if I will be a Liverpool player next season. But I think my name is still on their wanted list.
"I don't hide it, I'm ambitious and I want to join a top-six side. I am 26 years old and it's time to take that step."
Diame has a year left on his West Ham contract and has a £3.5million buyout clause in his contract.
The club do want to keep him but do not want to meet the £80,000-a-week wages he is demanding to stay.
