Liverpool are reportedly prepared to let midfielder Raul Meireles leave in the coming days as they attempt to trim their midfield ahead of a busy week of possible transfers.
The Reds are close to agreeing deals for Blackpool playmaker Charlie Adam and Aston Villa winger Stewart Downing as they attempt to build a squad capable of challenging for a top four finish.
Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish is currently in discussions with Blackpool over their Scottish international midfielder and is hoping that a deal can be completed in the coming days.
It appears likely that Liverpool will pay £8million for Adam with two youngsters heading in the opposite direction on possible loan spells. Jonjo Shelvey and Stephen Darby have both been offered as Dalglish attempts to sweeten the deal for Blackpool.
Downing is also thought to be on the brink of a move to Anfield after the winger made it clear that he wants to follow in the footsteps of fellow wide man Ashley Young who recently sealed his move away from Villa Park.
With two more midfielders likely to join an already over crowded midfield, the Merseyside club are considering selling Portugal international Meirles who has been attracting interest from Italian giants Inter Milan and Juventus.
According to the Daily Mirror, Inter are prepared to pay more than the £12million Liverpool paid for Meireles as they attempt to wrestle back the Serie A title from neighbours AC Milan, while Juventus have also been linked with a move for the Portugal international.
While Meireles enjoyed a successful first campaign in England, Dalglish is keen to bring his own players to the club and could therefore accept any substantial offer from Inter.
