Metro: Reunion now unlikely

Carlo Ancelotti has dealt Premier League clubs interested in snapping up Xabi Alonso a blow by revealing the midfielder is likely to pen a new contract with Real Madrid.

Ancelotti was also asked about talks between the club and 32-year-old, whose current deal expires at the end of the season, and said he expected an agreement to be reached.

"We believe that in the end we will find a solution and the club and the player will reach an agreement," Ancelotti said after Real's 1-0 friendly win over Paris Saint Germain in Doha.

Liverpool have been rumoured to be keeping an eye on contract developments of their former midfield ace.
