Liverpool are believed to be targeting a move for PSV Eindhoven midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum.
The Dutch international was reportedly wanted by Arsenal over the summer, but rejected speculation by insisting he would not be leaving PSV this season having made a promise to the club.
But Wijnaldum, who was handed the captaincy by manager Phillip Cocu at the beginning of the current campaign, has now caught the eye of Liverpool, with boss Brendan Rodgers looking to add attacking prowess to his midfield.
The Reds are said to be ready to test the resolve of both PSV and the 23-year-old with a deal worth around £9m before the end of this month's transfer window.
Since arriving at the club in 2011, Wijnaldum has scored 39 times in 105 appearances but has missed several months of this season with a back injury.
But with a return to fitness on the horizon, the midfielder will be targeting a place in Holland's World Cup squad in the summer and a starring role for Liverpool could help him secure it.
