Liverpool, Newcastle and Manchester United are likely to step up their interest in Sporting Lisbon striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel, after the 23-year-old said that a move to England would be a 'step up'.
The number nine has scored eight league goals in 20 appearances for Sporting in his first season with the club, following a move from FC Utrech in his native Holland.
However, despite having just signed a five-year deal with the Portuguese outfit, Van Wolfswinkel has apparently already got his sights set on a move to the Premier League.
'I know that a lot of Dutch players play in England,' he told Goal.com.
'It's a really good competition and I do see it as a step up.'
Unfortunately for Van Wolfswinkel, he is unlikely to get a chance to show Kenny Dalglish and Sir Alex Ferguson what he can do on the international stage this summer, as he faces stiff competition to get into the Dutch national side.
One of those keeping him out of the team is Arsenal striker Robin van Persie, who has already scored 26 league goals this season.
'We have really good strikers so I am not sure that I can get into the squad for the European Championship,' the Sporting man acknowledged.
