Liverpool plot move for Honduran star

Liverpool are being linked with a move for Honduran international Maynor Figueroa.

The 27-year-old full back was recently part of the national team's World Cup exploits, and new Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson is reportedly keen on bringing the player to Anfield.

A product of the Club Deportivo Victoria youth team in his homeland, Figueroa made his senior debut in 1999 before moving to Olimpia in 2003. He would skipper the Leones in the Liga Nacional de Honduras during his five years at the club before moving on to the Premier League.

After turning down offers from a string of MLS teams, Wigan Athletic Athletic signed Figueroa on an initial six month loan in January '08. A year later, after resolving issues over a work permit, the Latics signed the left back on a three-and-a-half year deal.

Figueroa has continued to shine at the DW Stadium, with former Fulham boss Hodgson taking notice of the player's continuous development in England's top tier.

The Daily Mirror reports that Hodgson is considering the sale of Emiliano Insua, with Fiorentina thought to be considering a £5 million move, as a way of funding the Figueroa swoop.

The Argentine international fell down the pecking order in Merseyside under Rafael Benitez, and Hodgson is keen to find an experienced top flight replacement.
