Liverpool will match Sunderland's £8million bid for Connor Wickham.
Anfield boss Kenny Dalglish has been monitoring Ipswich's young striker for the past six months, and he is ready to act in the face of opposition from the north east club.
The Mirror revealed yesterday Sunderland had made a formal bid for the England U-21 international , which has prompted the reaction from their Merseyside rivals.
Liverpool had previously bid £6million for Wickham, and also offered Ipswich the chance to take their young star Jonjo Shelvey on loan for next season.
Now though, Dalglish will get serious with an improved offer that offers Wickham a choice of Premier League destinations, confident in the belief the 18 year-old will choose Anfield.
Liverpool have had the player on their radar for some time, and with both Arsenal and Spurs still maintaining an interest, they are now ready to act to ensure they get their man with a second formal bid.
