Liverpool have made contact with Fiorentina over a move for Juan Manuel Vargas, according to reports.
Press speculation in Italy goes on to claim the Reds have taken an offer in the region of £11.5 million to the table of the Serie 'A' side, although the Viola are thought to want more from Liverpool for the player.
Peruvian international Vargas, a versatile left winger who can also play in the wing back position, was reportedly close to joining Real Madrid from Catania before moving to the Stadio Artemio Franchi in 2008.
The 27-year-old isn't the only wide man to be on Kenny Dalglish's radar though, with Ashley Young, Matt Jarvis and Sylvain Marveaux all thought to be summer Liverpool targets.
Damien Comolli, director of football at Anfield, has been heavily involved in the Merseysiders' scouting and transfer policy since arriving at the club back in the Autumn, with the Frenchman drawing up a transfer shortlist alongside Dalglish.
Fenway Sports Group, the club's owners, recently stressed the importance of the Frenchman and manager for the long-term future of Liverpool, and the pair appear to have agreed on one of their first transfer targets for the end of the season.
John W. Henry and Co will have to be called upon again financially should the club wish to land Vargas at a higher price, and with a handful of other players lined-up in a variety of positions, the summer months could prove to be busy for all connected with Liverpool.
