Liverpool are eyeing up a move for Middlesbrough centre back David Wheater as Roy Hodgson attempts to beef up his defensive options and hopes to make a move for the 23 year old in the January transfer window.
The former England Under 21 international has been linked with a move to the Meresyside club during Rafa Benitez's reign but no move was secured but Hodgson may have more luck completing the signing as the battling Redcar born defender looks for a new challenge after seeing his Boro side have started the season very poorly.
Having been a regular the Riverside for the best part of five seasons Wheater may feel this is his chance to seal a return to the Premier League and the giant defender may feel he could in time fight for a first team spot at Liverpool.
The £7m rated Middlesbrough man has amassed almost 150 appearances for the north east side and has plenty of top tier experience.
