Arsenal and Liverpool have been given an indication of what they need to do to convince Daryl Janmaat to sign for them, after the Feyenoord defender intimated that he could leave Holland this summer.
The 24-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from De Kuip when the transfer window reopens, having attracted attention from a number of big European clubs.
In an exclusive interview with Dutch publication Voetbal International, Janmaat admitted that he is aware of interest from Italy, but failed to mention his alleged admirers in the Premier League.
Brendan Rodgers and Arsene Wenger have both been monitoring Janmaat's situation closely, according to the Daily Mail, as they each look to lure him to Anfield or the Emirates Stadium, and will be encouraged by his latest comments hinting that a summer transfer is a serious possibility.
"Napoli is following me," said the Holland international. "Not that I've spoken to them, or anything, but I know that the club is following me.
"I recently spoke with Martin van Geel, the technical director. Together we agreed that we suspend the negotiations on the renewal of my contract [at Feyenoord] until after the summer.
"It is for me a special summer. First the World Cup with the Oranje, then perhaps a transfer."
Janmaat is expected to make Louis van Gaal's 23-man squad heading for Brazil next month, and if the talented right-back impresses then he is likely to add a growing list of potential suitors.
Liverpool and Arsenal could face serious competition for the player's signature, but might fancy their chances of securing his services based on both clubs' current managers respective reputations for developing young talent.
"I'll go to the club that give me the best feeling for the future, which I think is going to be good for my development," he explained.
"And it doesn't matter to me initially whether it is in Italy, England, Spain or Germany. I think I am the type of player who could play in all these competitions."
