The Spanish side have been forced to sell off most of their best players in recent seasons in order to compensate for financial problems off the pitch, which will give Liverpool some hope that there is room for negotiations.
The Reds will need to bolster their squad this summer after qualifying for the Champions League this season.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is seemingly intent on ensuring he has options in the middle of the park - and Superdeportes report that the club are also keen on Sevilla's World Cup-bound midfielder Ivan Rakitic.
