According to Valencia-based newspaper Superdeporte, Liverpool are ready to activate the €25 million release clause in his contract having been told by Valencia that they wouldn't accept an offer of a penny less.

The Spanish side have been forced to sell off most of their best players in recent seasons in order to compensate for financial problems off the pitch, which will give Liverpool some hope that there is room for negotiations.
