Southampton are set to reject Liverpool's opening £20million offer for Adam Lallana, who they value at £30m.
Reports emerged on Monday stating the Reds had tabled a bid for the Saints star, who has been included in the 23-man England squad for this summer's World Cup in Brazil.
Lallana has previously admitted he is keen to test himself in the Champions League and Liverpool can offer him a chance to compete amongst Europe's elite next term but Southampton are understood to be ready to reject their initial £20m offer.
The 26-year-old is under contract until 2018, meaning Southampton are under no pressure to sell, and the latest reports now suggest Saints are ready to hold out for a fee in the region of £30m for the England international.
Liverpool are considered to be the frontrunners in the battle for Lallana's signature but Chelsea, Manchester United and Spurs have also been linked and could step up their interest if the Anfield outfit fail to reach an agreement with Southampton.
