Gignac joins list of potential signings

Liverpool have been linked with a move for French international striker Andre-Pierre Gignac.

The 24-year-old Toulouse forward represented Les Bleus at the World Cup in South Africa, and new Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson has reportedly taken an interest in the player as he looks to boost his strike-force at Anfield.

Gignac made his senior debut for Lorient in 2004, and after a brief loan spell with Pau in the 2005/06 season signed for Ligue 1 outfit Toulouse in controversial circumstances in 2007.

The striker was thought to have agreed a €4.5m move to Lille with a pre-contract agreement in place, but improved personal terms from TFC saw the striker move to the Stadium Municipal Toulouse instead as the clubs became involved in a war-of-words.

After an average first campaign for his new club, Gignac scored 25 goals in 43 appearances to land the league's top scorer award and earn international recognition. As well as representing Raymond Domenech's then side, Arsenal, Manchester United and Juventus were all thought to be keen on moves for the striker.

They failed to materialise, and after a poor campaign last term any move seemed to be off for the forward. However, Sport 10 network reports that Gignac's agent is attempting to push a move to Anfield.

Hodgson could look to negotiate the current €15 million valuation from the French club, as Gignac joins the reportedly growing list of strikers wanted on Merseyside.

Carlton Cole, Peter Crouch and Ola Tembolin have all been linked with the club in the last week as the former Fulham boss looks to offer Fernando Torres and David Ngog support up-front.
