Express: Stopper close to Anfield move

Former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes is close to joining Liverpool.Valdes is a free agent after leaving the Spanish giants at the end of last season.

The 32-year-old is currently recovering from a long-term knee injury, but is nearing a return to full fitness.

And according to reports in Spain, just a medical stands between Valdes becoming a Liverpool player.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers wants the Spanish international to provide competition for Simon Mignolet at Anfield.

It is thought Valdes will undergo a medical at Melwood within the next two weeks.

There has been no comment from the player or club yet, but it appears a move is on the cards.
