Liverpool have fixed their sights on Bayern Munich attacking midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri after missing out on Chelsea bound Mohamed Salah.
Brendan Rodgers had been on Salah's trail throughout the window but was left frustrated as Chelsea agreed a fee for the Basel winger, who could be announced as their latest signing ahead of their FA Cup Fourth Round tie against Stoke.
The Reds are yet to do any business so far this window, although Rodgers has been in the hunt for a winger.
But it seems Shaquiri has emerged as a possible target for Rodgers as he seeks to add more quality to his squad.
The 22-year-old has seen opportunities limited, such has been the exceptional form of Arjen Robben and Ballon d'Or runner-up Franck Ribery.Liverpool were after Shaqiri last summer, but Bayern Munich's Chief Executive, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge refuted suggestions at the time that he could leave, and said: "Nobody has called about Shaqiri. Right now there are no plans [to sell].
"The coach is completely satisfied with him. I think we will go into the season with the current squad."
Reports on the continent suggest a bid in the region of £17 million could be enough to capture Shaqiri's services.
Shaqiri has notched up three goals in 17 competitions under Pep Guardiola's tutelage this term.
