Liverpool striker David Ngog has jumped to the top of Owen Coyle's wanted list after the Bolton boss ditched moves for Daniel Sturridge and Jeffren.
Coyle is hoping to sign Ngog for around £3million despite being offered the Frenchman for £6m last year.
Bolton need a striker to fill the hole left by Sturridge's return to Chelsea after the England U21 star scored eight goals in 12 games for Wanderers during a loan spell last season.
Coyle would love Sturridge back for a second stint but knows it is not going to happen and the Reebok Stadium boss had turned his attention to Barcelona's 23-year-old forward Jeffren.
The clubs agreed a £5m fee but talks over personal terms never materialised and Coyle has now set his sights on Ngog.
The Frenchman, 22, arrived at Anfield in 2008 but has struggled to establish himself in the side.
He was strongly linked with a move to Sunderland earlier in the summer.
Coyle has already signed midfielder Darren Pratley from Swansea and is close to finalising deals for Tyrone Mears and Chris Eagles from Burnley and free agent Nigel Reo-Coker - a free agent since his release from aston Villa.
