Jamie Carragher has emphatically denied suggestions he is prepared to leave Liverpool if he is not offered a contract extension, insisting he wants to finish his career at Anfield.
It had been speculated that the defender, 32, would seek a move this summer if manager Rafael Benitez did not offer to extend his deal.
But Carragher is adamant he is happy with an agreement he has reached with the Spaniard that contract talks can wait until he rejoins his team-mates for the start of next season, his 14th at the club.
"I have spoken to the manager about it and we both agreed that it would be better if we talked about it at the start of next season," he said. "There was an interview with a national newspaper and the headline was a bit misleading, saying that I would be prepared to leave Liverpool.
"Really, I said that if Liverpool did not want me, I would be forced to sign for someone else because I would have no other option.
"I do not want to retire yet. I understand at my age you can only make decisions season by season, but I want to finish my career at Liverpool. I do not want to play for anyone else."
Carragher has announced plans to hold a testimonial against an Everton XI at Anfield on Sep 4, suggesting he certainly plans to be a Liverpool player at that stage.
