Robert Campbell featured in 13 matches out of his total of 14 in Bill Shankly's inaugural season as manager.

His playing career was cut short by injury soon after his 30th birthday, but Bobby became well-known as a successful coach at Portsmouth, Arsenal and manager at Chelsea and was George Best's manager at Fulham.
