Aston Villa are demanding Liverpool pay a fee of £500,000 plus full wages should they want Stephen Warnock on loan, according to The Guardian.
Liverpool have made it clear that they are not willing to meet the demands set by the Midlands club.
Warnock's hopes of a move away from Villa Park rest on the club lowering the substantial fee, or on Liverpool putting up the cash.
The left-back has been out of favour since Villa's 4-0 defeat to Manchester City last month. The 29-year-old has not been in the Villa squad since and has been training with the reserves.
Warnock started his career with Liverpool, a graduate of their academy programme, before moving across county to Blackburn Rovers. He joined Villa from Rovers in 2009, making his debut against local rivals Birmingham.
Last year the player caught the eye of England manager Fabio Capello and was a member of the 23-man 2010 World Cup squad.
Several other clubs are reportedly interested in signing the player.
