After a troublesome start to the season Givemefootball take a look at three possible players that could help Benitez challenge for the Premier League title once again.
Rafael van der Vaart (Real Madrid)
Rafael van der Vaart is one player that could be on Rafa's radar come January. The Dutch international has again struggled to break into the Madrid first team this season and has finally started to look for a move away from the Spanish side.
Liverpool have struggled in the Premier League and Europe this season.
Van der Vaart recently told De Telegraaf newspaper: "I do not know if I will stay at Real Madrid, but there are other options."
Estimated cost: £8million
David Villa (Valencia)
David Villa is a player who would undoubtedly improve Liverpool as a team. Villa already has a good understanding with Torres having both played together for Spain.
Valencia's financial problems may mean the club has to cash in on the striker but he won't go cheap. Villa's price tag would be Liverpool's stumbling block with the Merseyside club unable to meet the asking price.
Estimated cost: £30million
Carlton Cole (West Ham)
Carlton Cole has been one of the only positives for West Ham this season as they battle against relegation. Cole has scored six goals and recent media reports have linked the Hammers' striker with a move to Anfield.
Cole could be used to add strength and physical presence to Liverpool's strike force as well as ease the burden on Fernando Torres.
Estimated cost: £12million
