Lazio are ready to hijack Inter Milan's move for Newcastle and Liverpool target Douglas, according to sources in Italy.
talkSPORT told you back in March that Inter had signalled their interest in the defender ahead of a possible summer move.
The 25-year-old, who has Dutch citizenship having been at FC Twente since 2007, was linked heavily with Newcastle last summer and came close to switching to St James' Park.
In the end a transfer failed to materialise, although it is thought Alan Pardew still retains an interest in the Brazil-born centre-back.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is also understood to be interested in him, with defensive reinforcements his priority this summer.
But now Lazio are ready to pounce for Doulgas, who is out of contract and available on a free transfer at the end of June.
