Liverpool and Everton are locked in a three-way battle with Inter Milan to sign QPR midfielder Stephane Mbia, according to sources in France.
Mbia, who joined QPR in 2012 and was part of the side that slipped out of the Premier League last term, is currently on loan at Sevilla.
His temporary deal at the La Liga club expires in June and he previously expressed his desire to sign for a club competing in the Champions League if Sevilla opt against signing him on a permanent basis.
Liverpool, who have already qualified for next season's Champions League, are believed to have had contact with the 27-year-old.
The Reds' managing director Ian Ayre recently revealed that manager Brendan Rodgers will have vast transfer funds at his disposal as the Merseysiders prepare to return to the top level of European football.
Meanwhile, neighbours Everton are still in the hunt for a top-four place and are also believed to be on the trail of the Cameroon international.
Both Premier League sides will also face competition from Inter Milan, although the San Siro outfit are expected to compete in the Europa League next year.
