Liverpool face competition from Zenit St Petersburg and Bayern Munich in the battle to sign Juan Manuel Vargas.
The Fiorentina star appears set to leave the Italian club at the end of the season and Liverpool are keen.
Vargas, 28, has been at Fiorentina since 2008 but is said to be keen on a new challenge in another country.
The Serie A side are open to the prospect of cashing in on him but will demand the bidding starts at around £15m.
Vargas, a midfielder who can also play on the wing, is high on Liverpool's list of targets as Kenny Dalglish plans for a big summer at Anfield.
Following a disappointing league campaign that seems destined to end without Champions League football next season, Dalglish hopes a player of Vargas' calibre will lift the club to the next level.
But the Anfield chief faces a fight as both Bayern and Zenit have registered an interest in the Peru international.
