Luis Suarez must complete his transfer to Liverpool early next week or he will have to wait until the summer to move, according to Ajax coach Frank de Boer.
The Uruguayan striker has emerged as Liverpool's top January target and the two clubs are locked in talks about a fee for the proposed transfer.
It is thought Ajax are holding out for more than the £18 million the Reds are willing to pay for Suarez, who scored 49 times in 48 games for the Dutch club last season.
De Boer has now indicated he is keen to push the deal through at the earliest possible opportunity, so that he and Ajax general director Rik van den Boog have time to sign a replacement.
'We won't let Luis go on 31st January at 23.55. It is logical and a deal which I made with Rik van den Boog,' he told De Telegraaf.
'To replace Suarez will be difficult, but we are ready. We have a Plan B, we know what we want if he leaves.'
