Liverpool's search for a striking partner for Fernando Torres may now be leading the club to pursue one of the world's most sought after - and expensive - options, Wolfsburg and Bosnia and Herzegovina striker Edin Dzeko.
Dzeko, whose contract has a $54 million (34 million pound) release clause in his contract with the German club, is also being pursued by Juventus and Manchester City, is so expensive that including returning players in the transfer deal may be the only option.
City is expected to offer striker Emmanuel Adebayor - though he claims he will not play in Germany - and the potential Liverpool deal would need to include Ryan Babel and Daniel Agger, accoring to Metro.
Agger has been injured up to this point in the 2010-11 season, but the center back is ready to return imminently. Babel has been out of favor for much of his tenure at Anfield, despite his great potential.
The striker's record, though, may justify the cost. At just 24 years old, Dzeko has scored 17 times in 31 matches for his country and 65 times in 109 games for Wolfsburg. He also won the Bundesliga in 2008-09 under former England manager Steve McClaren.
