Just one day after turning down an £8million offer from West Ham for striker Shane Long, Reading may yet receive an even more inviting bid from Liverpool.
The Reds have already spent over £50million this summer and the spending spree shows no sign of slowing down as a left-back and a new striker both appear to be in manager Kenny Dalglish's plans.
Dalglish signed Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez in January but still believes that he needs one more forward to complete his squad.
Reading manager Brian McDermott has revealed that he will not stand in the way if Long wants to join a Premier League side but is insistent that he will not move to a Championship rival.
"If a Premier League club comes in and we decide the deal is right and Shane wants to go there's nothing we can do," McDermott told Skysports.com "It's important I do the right thing by him as well. For me he'll go down as a very special Reading player."
The 24-year-old has also attracted interest from the likes of West Brom and Newcastle but should Long be presented with the chance to make the move to Anfield then it would be tough to turn down.
Perhaps critical to Long's decision is whether he wants to move to Liverpool where he would clearly be a back-up to the front two or West Ham where he would be guaranteed first team football and the chance to lead the club to promotion.
