Reds to bid for Sampdoria defender?

Liverpool are looking at the possibility of bringing in Sampdoria left back Reto Ziegler to Anfield, according to the Italian media.

The 24 year old has had a spell in the Premier League before with Tottenham Hotspur but he failed to impress as a left winger.

Since joining Sampdoria in 2007 though, he has been converted into a left full back, a position that the Reds are currently lacking in at the moment after the depature of Fabio Aurelio.

Ziegler has impressed during Sampdoria's Serie A campaign last season when the Genoa club finished fourth in the league to gain the final Champions League spot.

The Swiss left back also impressed for Switzerland during the World Cup as they conceded just one goal in three group matches, beating Spain in the process.
