Reds face Blues battle for hotshot

Liverpool will have to battle with old adversaries Everton for the signature of Stuttgart ace Pavel Pogrebnyak, according to reports.

Russian daily Soviet Sport suggests that Everton boss David Moyes is unhappy with the lack of goals from his current strike force and has identified Pogrebnyak as the man to solve his problems at Goodison Park.

However, Liverpool are also thought to be keen on the 26-year-old Russia striker as Roy Hodgson looks to increase the potency of his frontline, which currently relies too heavily on Anfield hero Fernando Torres.

Pogrebnyak has also previously been linked with a move to Tottenham - something that Stuttgart coach Fredi Bobic confirmed, although he is reluctant to let the Russian leave.

"I have been listening to rumours that Liverpool and Tottenham have their eyes on Pavel," Bobic told German publication Bild.

"It's a fact. However, none of these clubs have been talking to us about him lately. He is a player of VfB Stuttgart."

Despite the interest from Everton, Liverpool still remain favourites to land their man after Reds owners NESV pledged around £30 million to support Hodgson in the transfer market come January.

However, Everton won't give up on Pogrebnyak without a fight and whether he will end up at Goodison Park or Anfield remains unclear.
