Liverpool may have been linked with a host of midfielders in recent weeks, but it is a new left-back that is a number one priority for manager Kenny Dalglish and it seems Lyon's talented defender Aly Cissokho has emerged as the main target.
The French international has been in impressive form for the Ligue 1 side this season and has attracted interest from a number of Europe's top clubs, including AC Milan and Real Madrid.
Recently it was widely reported that there had been a number of enquiries for the young full-back with the player's representative revealing that there had been interest from English teams.
"I don't know which English clubs are involved as I'm his agent for Italy," Fabrizio Ferrari admitted to tribalfootball.com. "But his agent told me several English clubs are interested."
The Reds director of football, Damien Comolli, was an admirer of Cissokho when he was working at St. Etienne and has reportedly recommended the attacking full-back to Dalglish.
The experienced Scot is desperate to add some much needed depth to defence after Paul Koncheskey and Emiliano Insua both seem likely to leave at the end of the season, leaving Fabio Aurelio as the only the recognised left-back at the club.
However, Liverpool may face a battle to sign the 23-year-old after he admitted that he has no desire to leave the French club.
"I have arrived at Lyon and things have not gone badly for me. I have got into the France team and I am thankful for the confidence they have shown in me," Cissokho told Talksport. "I am not thinking about interest from other clubs."
Liverpool will hope that they can convince the French club, currently fourth in the league, eight points behind leader Lille, to sell at the end of the season as the club's owners have promised significant funds for Dalglish.
