Reds eye ex-United striker

Liverpool are reportedly interested in a summer move for Atletico Madrid striker Diego Forlan.

The Uruguayan striker has been prolific in La Liga after moving to Spain from Old Trafford in 2004, and now Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is looking at a potential bid when the transfer window re-opens.

Regarded by many as a failure during his time at Manchester United, Forlan has proved his ability in-front of goal for both Villarreal and Atletico on a regular basis. Winner of the Pichichi for both clubs, Forlan earned a move for around €21 million in 2007.

He has repaid Los Rojiblancos with two goals in every three games, becoming a huge hit at the Vicente Calderón Stadium after the departure of Fernando Torres.

On the international stage, Forlan has scored 23 goals in 61 appearances for Charrúas since making his debut at senior level in 2002.

The 30-year-old striker will feel like he still has something to prove in the Premier League after his time under Sir Alex Fegruson, and the Mail on Sunday reports that Benitez is willing to take a chance on the striker.

A fee in the region of £16 million will be needed to take the striker away from the Spanish capital, and the Reds will get to see his skills first hand when the two sides face off in the Europa League semi-finals.
