Reds chase wing ace Mata

Liverpool are chasing Valencia winger Juan Mata.

Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson is currently waiting for the outcome of the takeover situation at the club, with Boston red Sox owners New England Sports Ventures' proposed £300m purchase being held up by wrangles with current owner Tom Hicks.

But as soon as the deal is completed, Hodgson is keen to start planning for the future and according to Spanish daily Super Deporte he will make a move for 22-year-old Juan Mata as soon as possible.

It is thought the Reds may try to use Ryan Babel as a makeweight in a deal for the Spaniard.
