West Ham United midfielder Scott Parker has a chest infection and has only a small chance of playing at Anfield.
West Ham remain at the foot of the Premier League table and, with the news that Steven Gerrard faces a lengthy lay-off, Avram Grant would be seeking an upset against Liverpool.
However, the Hammers look likely to be shorn of their key midfielder for the game and a West Ham source told ESPNsoccernet: "It would be a huge loss if Scott Parker fails to make it and at this stage he is unlikely to be fit in time."
West Ham, who are yet to win an away game in the league this season, last won at Anfield 47 years ago.
Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has urged his team-mates to deliver a victory against West Ham and lift the gloom after Gerrard's injury.
He told the Liverpool Echo: "Everyone knows what great quality Steven has and it is frustrating for everyone - though nobody more than him - that he is out because he has been in such good form, but the most important thing now is beating West Ham.
"We know we didn't perform at Stoke but if we get three points tomorrow, the league table will look much better and we can push on."
