Hibs boss Colin Calderwood was today set to make Icelandic Under-21 midfielder Victor Palsson his fourth signing of the week following the arrivals of Matt Thornhill, Martin Scott and Richie Towell.
The 19-year-old is understood to have agreed an 18-month deal subject to a medical after impressing during a closed doors match against Dunfermline at East Mains earlier this week, as exclusively revealed by the Evening News.
And Palsson will be no stranger to Easter Road, having played as a second-half substitute as Iceland secured their place in this summer's European Under-21 Championship finals, a 2-1 win in the Capital last October completing a 4-2 victory on aggregate over Billy Stark's side.
Two of the young Scots that night, Paul Hanlon and David Wotherspoon, will now become teammates of Palsson who revealed the prospect of playing in the Euro finals in Denmark was partly behind his decision to quit Liverpool for Hibs.
Disclosing he's "optimistic" his move will be successfully completed shortly, Palsson admitted he'd been impressed by what he'd seen in Edinburgh.
He said: "After a two-year stay at Liverpool I think this could be a good step for me."
Palsson came to Liverpool's attention while playing for Danish outfit AG Aarhus having started his career in his homeland with Fylkir, the Anfield outfit paying £300,000 to secure the 6ft 1in midfielder's signature two years ago.
A regular in the Liverpool reserve side, Palsson has recently been on loan with Dagenham and Redbridge.
