Liverpool have lined up a surprise move for Monaco forward Benjamin Moukandjo as an alternative to Lille's Gervinho.
The Cameroonian, who can also play on the flank, has become a target for Kenny Dalglish, according to French reports, after Monaco's relegation to the second tier.
Moukandjo would be available for considerably less that Gervinho, and the Reds would certainly face less competition to land the 22-year-old, who's considered a similar type of player to the Ivory Coast international.
However, Liverpool's pursuit of the lanky attacker may still come as a surprise, as he's had limited experience playing in the top flight, and only managed three goals in 16 appearances for Monaco since arriving from Ligue 2 side Nimes in January.
But Moukandjo's raw ability and versatility will be what's appealing to Dalglish and Damien Comolli, whose focus will be providing cover for the first choice strike pairing of Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez.
