Liverpool are tracking Sporting Lisbon defender Marcos Rojo, according to Portuguese publication A Bola.
The Argentina international, who can player at either left or centre-back, has a reported £25million release clause in his contract.
Rojo began his career in his home country with Estudiantes, moving to Spartak Moscow in January 2011 before being snapped up by Sporting in August 2012.
Premier League champions or not, Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is expected to build on this season with new additions to shore up his leaky defence.
The Northern Irishman has already been linked with Southampton's Luke Shaw and Cardiff's Steven Caulker, among a host of other foreign defenders.
