Liverpool target Ziegler wants to stay in Italy

Liverpool target Reto Ziegler insists he wants to stay at Sampdoria Genoa.

"I think president Riccardo Garrone knows I want to stay here," Ziegler told the Secolo XIX radio station.

"I feel 100 per cent Sampdoria. And I want to wear this shirt for another three or four years."

Ziegler's contract with Sampdoria expires at the end of the season, but the former Tottenham man is hoping the two sides can reach an agreement over a new deal.

"I hope to reach an agreement on January 1," he said. "It has been reported that the gap between what is being demanded and offered is great. But that is not true, it's small. Sampdoria know that if they come up to me just a little bit, I'll be ready to sign."

The 24-year-old Switzerland international has been linked with a host of clubs, with AC Milan , Juventus FC Torino , Hamburger SV and VfL Wolfsburg joining Liverpool in the race for his signature.
