Liverpool don't hang around when they miss out on a player - they just move on to another target, this time Newcastle left back Jose Enrique.
Liverpool appear to have lost out to Man City in the race to sign Gael Clichy, who has made it very clear that he wants to leave The Emirates and with a left back being an area they want to strengthen, it then is no real surprise that the Anfield outfit would look towards St James Park.
Enrique has turned out for Newcastle 119 times and has appeared for Spain at various youth levels and at 25 years of age has still has to reach his peak and if it is not Liverpool that come in for him this time, another club is sure to do so.
Newcastle will put up a fight, but if Liverpool offer up enough money then you can be fairly certain that the Newcastle chairman, Mike Ashley, will seriously consider selling.
As gossip goes, this one looks credible and having put the disappointment of losing out in the race to sign Arsenal's Clichy, Liverpool have moved on and found a very good alternative.
