Liverpool have set their sights on out-of-favour Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema.
According to sources cited by the German 4-4-2 Web site, the Reds are eying a loan move for the 23-year-old French international with an option for a permanent purchase at the end of the season.
Benzema continues to be on the fringes of the Real Madrid side, despite the long-term injury to front-man Gonzalo Higuain.
His failure to secure a first-team place under Jose Mourinho has even caused conflict between the Real coach and general director Jorge Valdano.
Valdano said after last Sunday's draw with Almeria that he hoped Benzema did not stay on the bench for too long, calling the situation "unfair."
To which Mourinho responded by saying, "I pick the team, and if I need any help then I have my coaching staff."
