Liverpool are closing in on a deal to sign Sunderland midfielder Jordan Henderson after lining up a £13million bid.
Henderson has been linked with Manchester United, neighbours City and Arsenal in recent months, but the 20-year-old has told close friends he would prefer a move to Anfield after Liverpool made a formal approach to Sunderland.
A deal is being held up by what one source described as a 'ridiculous' asking price, believed to be in the region of £20million, but Henderson could be a Liverpool player by the time he returns from England duty at the European U21 Championships in Denmark later this month.
Sunderland are lining up several deals themselves as they look to bring in five new players but are mindful they don't let one of the prize assets go on the cheap.
They struck a deal with Aston Villa for Darren Bent but would prefer to have a replacement lined up for Henderson before allowing a sale.
