Roy Hodgson has targeted Spain winger Santi Cazorla as the man to ignite Liverpool who have endured a stuttering start to the season and currently find themselves in ninth place in the Premier League.
Liverpool may have progressed to the knock out stages of the Europa League, but have struggled to find the net with Fernando Torres still to discover his best form.
With the club's new owners promising Hodgson funds in January, the Villarreal winger would be a superb addition to a squad that is lacking creativity and flair.
The fleet-footed winger has been in superb form for the Yellow Submarines, scoring four goals and claiming four assists in his 15 league appearances, to help Villarreal to third in the league.
The 26-year-old has also forced his way back into the Spanish national team and is seen as the type of player who can help Torres rediscover his top form.
Cazorla has plenty of European experience at club level and was also a vital member of Spain's 2008 European Championship winning squad, making appearances in five of the matches, including playing the final 25 minutes of the final.
The diminutive winger has spent the best part of seven years with the La Liga club, but could well be persuaded to join Liverpool and reunite with former team mate and good friend Pepe Reina.
Hodgson will be hoping be can try and secure a deal in January as he attempts to bring in his own players and improve a struggling Liverpool side.
