Marcello Lippi has emerged as a surprise contender for the vacant Liverpool manager's job.
News of the 62-year-old's inclusion in the Anfield shortlist comes as he prepares to lead Italy's defence of their World Cup title in South Africa next week.
Lippi has already confirmed that he will stand down as national coach for his homeland to make way for Cesare Prandelli.
The former Juventus coach has previously expressed an interest in coaching at a Premier League club and this admission could see him appointed as Rafael Benitez's successor despite Fulham boss Roy Hodgson remaining the firm favourite for the role.
