Liverpool have been given a boost in their chase for Paraguayan centre-forward Oscar Cardozo by comments from the player's agent.
Brendan Rodgers appeared set to lose out on the Benfica striker after reports claimed the long-term Anfield target was ready to extend his deal with current club Benfica.
However, comments from the 29-year-old's agent suggest the Merseysiders may yet be able to convince Cardozo to reject an offer from the Portuguese club and make the switch to Anfield.
"Cardozo wants to make this contract last for life," Pedro Aldave is quoted as saying in a talkSPORT report.
"It will be the last one of his life so it must be good for him. A deal elsewhere? That depends on Benfica and whether it pleases them."
These comments would suggest the deal with his club is far from complete and may leave the door open for a rival club to come in and gazump them.
Liverpool being credited with an interest is likely down to the shortage of striking options at the club, as Luis Suarez is the only fit senior central striker at Rodgers' disposal.
The Uruguayan has been magnificent this season so far, but the problem with the lack of another option was highlighted in the loss to Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday evening.
Suarez worked hard but he did not have his shooting boots on and only a comical own goal from Gareth Bale got them on the scoresheet.
Fabio Borini was signed from AS Roma in the summer but he was taking time to settle at Anfield before a broken bone in his foot ruled him out until the New Year.
