Reported Liverpool target Eljero Elia has revealed his frustration at the lack of first opportunities currently afforded to him at Hamburg.
The 24-year-old joined the Bundesliga club from FC Twente in 2009 and - despite impressing during his first season in Germany - the winger has found himself benched more often than not this campaign with Hamburg manager Armin Veh harbouring doubts over his application.
Hamburger Morgenpost reported last month that Liverpool were keen to bring the €15 million-rated Holland international to Anfield during the January transfer window and they are expected to reignite their interest in the summer.
With Liverpool lying in wait, Elia is seemingly open to the idea of a transfer and the end of the season due to his limited opportunities at the Imtech Arena.
"Apparently there is not much confidence in me," he told Voetbal International.
"That hurts. I feel strong and would like to show the fans what I can do. It is very frustrating. I have started eight games and we have won seven of them so I cannot have done that badly.
"I don't know what I have done wrong, I have not been told. I know that I am not a bad player and I am in good shape.
"I am a player who needs confidence. If I play every week I will improve. No-one can accuse me of not working hard enough, I am as fit as a fiddle."
The acquisition of Elia would certainly add some youthful exuberance to the Liverpool squad - something owners New England Sports Ventures (NESV) have identified as one of their top priorities.
With new signings Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll aged 24 and 22 respectively - and the likes of Martin Kelly and Jay Spearing coming through the ranks - Liverpool are already steadily building a squad to challenge for future honours.
Along with an apparent bid for Elia, the in investment in young talent seems set to continue with Liverpool tipped to launch moves for Portugal international Fábio Coentrão and Aston Villa winger Ashley Young in the closed season.
