Liverpool look set to rival Arsenal for Lyon's burgeoning talent Clement Grenier.

The 22-year-old has received glowing praise from Arsenal manager, who said that he has 'interesting qualities and reminds me of Samir Nasri'.

The Gunners are expected to be given a £70m transfer kitty and have been looking at a number of midfielders including Josip Ilicic.

But Liverpool, who made Kolo Toure their first signing of the summer yesterday are set to challenge Arsenal with their own offer.

According to French paper L'Equipe, Liverpool have lodged a £12.8m bid to try and hijack Arsenal's potential interest.

It is also thought that Juventus are on his trail as they look to launch an assault on the Champions League next season.

Grenier is entering the final year of his contract.
